Your Child's First Dental Visit

At your first visit in our Roseville dental office, we will review your child’s health history form and answer any questions you have. We will perform a simple head and neck exam and then evaluate the health of your child’s teeth, gums and bite. We will also review the daily routine of brushing and flossing and give you a cavity prevention kit to use at home.

Fluoride varnish can be applied and digital x-rays taken, depending on your child’s age and results of the exam. If your child is very young, we may not do much more than a short exam and blow up a balloon, with a simple goal of exposing your child to this new environment: the sights, sounds and smells of a dental office.

Before your child’s first dental visit, we advise you to talk to your child about going to the dentist in positive terms. You can practice counting one another’s teeth & reading children’s books about going to the dentist, such as Just Going to the Dentist by Mercer Mayer.
